Satisfying thriller directed with cool precision
Dangerous Obsession: Sheringham Little Theatre
Penned by the writer of Dixon of Dock Green, Dangerous Obsession has all the satisfying twists and turns of a well-made thriller.
When a stranger walks through the door of a villa, we little imagine what kind of secrets he knows about its wealthy owners. But as the evening progresses he gradually reveals all, with devastating effect.
The mysterious stranger (Richard Sandells) has all the right twitches and sustains his madness beautifully, and a s for the perfect blonde wife (Georgina Carey), she’s not only a knockout in her floppy pink hat and swimming costume but she’s entirely convincing as the strong backbone of sense and compassion. Andrew Castell as the weak but debonair husband has all the assurances of the an affluent man.
But these ingredients would be as nothing without an atmosphere of tension and a few fireworks. And in the second half, the suspense mounts to a point that is almost too much!
Clare Goddard (one-time artistic director at the Maddermarket Theatre), directs with cool precision and the play fits the venue a treat. Just the right thrilling conclusion to a day at the beach - but make sure you bring something to hide behind, even if it’s only your programme.
